Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must beworn at all times when handling material and tools throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.

  1. In each space, identify where the staging area will be.

    1. The staging area will be where all material is located while waiting to be installed.

  2. Set up runners, tarps, and drop cloths where applicable.

  3. Set up a blanket in each space of install for the staging area

    1. Ensure it is close to the workspace; there should be protection on the floor as well as between the material and the wall.

  4. At the jobsite, identify where the “shop” will be located.

    1. The shopis a central location in which tools and prepping of materials should be located.

    2. If space(s) on the first floor: Set up shopwithin the space’s vicinity.

    3. If space(s) only on the second floor: Set up shopin a space that has extra room for prepping and storing tools not being used (ie. Primary Bedroom).

  1. Set up a blanketin each space to create the footprint of the staging area.

    1. Ensure it is close to the workspace; there should be coverage on the floor as well as the wall to lean material.

Staging Blanket

  1. Bring in any cordless tools to ensure batteries are being charged.

  2. Bring in materials from the van/truck and set them on the blankets.  All material should be brought in during the same time-frame.

    1. Be aware of larger and heavier items that require a team lift. Do not attempt to lift an item identified as a a team lift item.

    2. Material should be brought in following the initial walkthrough with the customer.

    3. Material should be organized by room with the exception of partitions; partitions should be staged in the “shop” area to be prepped.  The prepped partitions will then be brought to the workspace and hung on the rail.

  3. Inspect each item prior to placing it in the staging area. Inspect the front, back, and each side for chips or damages. If any damage is identified and needs replacement, call the shop/warehouse as soon as identified.

...

If space is limited, place adjustable shelves against the wall first, followed by fixed shelves.

Staged material

If there is not enough space for staging all material, prioritize partitions and shelves.  Bring in the remainder of the materials once partitions and shelves are installed.  Overall, bring in as much material as possible in the same time-frame to avoid wasted travel time to and from the van/track.

...

  1. Assess materials based on the drawings and BOM, and ensure you have the correct number of partitions, shelves, and drawers.

    1. Doing so early will allow for a call to the shop/warehouse, and a plan can be created to avoid a return visit.

  2. Stage accessories and hardware.

    1. Load in hand tools, hardware, and cleaning materials (crayons, cleaner, rags, vacuum).

    2. Load accessories into each space and set them on the blanketsin each staging area.

    3. Assess the accessories based on the BOM and ensure you have the correct quantity and finish of all accessories needed for the project.

Staged accessories/hardware

If you find while assessing the accessories that you are missing something, or the finish is incorrect, make a call to your project or installation manager and advise them of what you are missing.  This should be done during the staging process to allow for enough time for a solution.

...
