Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must beworn at all times when handling material and operating the power tools mentioned throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.

  1. Check elevation for the location of the cleat.

  • If there are any concerns, confirm with the design consultant or your manager.

  1. Locate any studs in the cleat’s location using a stud finder.

  • If there is a stud: Use a 2 1/2” screw and attach the cleat through the middle pre-drilled hole(s) on the cleat.

  • If there is no stud: Mark where the bolt will go and pre-drill a 1/4” countersunk hole through the board. Pre-drill a 1/2” hole through the wall and insert a toggle bolt. Use a 2 1/2” screw and attach the cleat through the middle pre-drilled hole on the cleat.

  1. Level and mark the remaining holes needed for the cleat board.

  • Use a line for studs.

  • Use an X for toggle locations. 

  1. Install the cleat board.

  • Pre-drill and install toggles according to the markings from Step 2.

  • On the board, pre-drill a ¼” hole and countersink the hole enough to have the bolt flush with the board.

  • Tighten the board by ensuring all attachment points are screwed in and make sure the board is level.

  • Ensure the screws in studs are tight, but do not overtighten the toggle bolts.

  1. Install accessories.

  • Put the accessories in place by lining the holes in the cleat to the nubs on the accessory.

  • Press them in firmly use included screws a 1/2” or 5/8” screw through the accessory into the board.

  • Once all screws are in, use the provided cap to cover the screws.

For single accessory cleats, use a 23-gauge pin nailer and pin nails to secure the four corners to keep it from shifting. Use long screws through the accessory into the board (through the board, into the wall).
