The AutoFit Width feature prompts a is used when there are smaller gaps in a design zone. The feature prompts an existing component to fit perfectly into an the available space.

To do this, right click on the component you wish to fit that needs to be fitted and select Auto-Fit Width.

...

If the component is fitted to an opening that is too large (resulting in a comp over 36” wide), a red warning ‘X’ will appear with a Max Width’ Width warning (below). Adjust . If this happens, sure to adjust the component back to a smaller size using any of the width change options if this happens.Note: .

...

Info

If the space available is under the predetermined standard width of a new component (typically defaulted to 24” when pulling over an empty component), the new component will automatically fill the space available when

it is

pulled over. You should not have to use this feature.

When auto-fitting a component using this method, a red ‘blue Autowill appear at the top of the component (right). This means that the component is now the Design Zone’s dedicated ‘Auto Widthdesign zone’s dedicated “auto-width” component, which gives it an extra level of adjustability. There can only be one auto component per Design Zonedesign zone. Typically, this would be a component with limited parts such as a longh ang long hang section.

...

When there is an auto-width component, users will see an Auto option when hovering over the dimension lines on the other components, where you have previously seen ‘Next and/or Move’ (left).  Move have been previously seen.

If you double click clicking to change the dimension width when Autois showing, it will change the width of the selected component , and take by taking the size adjustment from the “auto width” component versus the ones beside itauto-width component. In this example, the odd-sized double hang on the far right as our ‘is the Autounit.

...

The second component from on the far left changed from 30” to 36” (see red arrow), and the components to either side did not change in width (green arrows), and the Auto . Instead of pushing or changing the component directly next to it, the auto-width component on the far right changed from 36” ~32” to 30” ~26” as a result (blue arrow, and shown originally on previous page).

Note: You can manually turn ‘Auto-Width.

Info

This is an easy way to control one component that might be ok to be custom sized, but ensure the user has control over the width of more important components.

The user can manually turn the Auto-Width feature on and off in the Component Properties menu, under Misc.’ (right). The check in the box to the right means it is ON“on”.

If Seeing An Asterisk* By a Width Dimension..

If an Asterisk (*) is displayed in the dimension line, it means the

measurement (

width

)

is a rounded value.

This is because our

Due to the board thicknesses

are

being measured down

the

to 1/10 of a millimeter, widths (especially when spanning units or filling a gap between units) may not work out to a nice fraction of an inch.

CAD will display the nearest fractional inch value

but then show

and shows the * to indicate that the actual measurement differs slightly.

You will likely see this

This is seen most often on an “AutoFit” width component. Double click on the dimension to see the true width, or check it in Component Properties.

You

This can also be manually trigger

this yourself

by typing in a measurement that is just slightly off from a standard fraction (e.g. 24.124 will display as 24.125* because that is the nearest standard fraction (24 1/8”).

AutoFit Components with “Hot Edges”

...

AUTOFIT COMPONENTS WITH “HOT EDGES”

Using “Hot Edgesis another method of to auto-fitting fit a component. When you place placing an empty component (or a pre-designed component template) in the available space, notice the two brighter bright green “bars” that appear on either side of the spacegap.

Before left clicking to place the compcomponent, move the cursor over one of bars to prompt the component to fill the space. If you don’t move your mouse over

...

If the curser isn’t directly over one of the bars, the component will just come in at the defaulted width (ei. 24”). This is provides an option if you choose to keep a the gap instead of filling the space. Left click to place.

...

Info

The new comp will automatically share partitions with existing comps if “Auto Partitions” is enabled.

Note: This option will not show hot corners if the width to fill is larger than 36” wide. If it’s less than ~24” it will just fill the space automatically.
