Panels, often referred to as applied panels, can be used to create add a decorative or accent panel on to a specific area in (or between) a component(s). They are not structural , like true system backing. They will not be as they are not routed into the shelves or pars, but rather fit exactly into the space given.

If the cursor is further to the left of the panel when adding, it the panel will sit at the back of the component. If the cursor is more towards the right, it will sit at the front of the component.

Note

The current version of the panel tool does not recognize suspension rails(this may even be visible in 3D depending on the material thickness), which means this could cause trouble when being installed. There are a few ways you can bypass this issue, either by changing the back offset (see below), by adding a faceplate, or by discussing a solution with your design manager or plan viewer.
