Installation Steps

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when handling material and operating the power tools mentioned throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.

  1. Ensure the power accessory is working by plugging it into an outlet.

  2. Determine the location of the power accessory as indicated by the elevation.

  • This will be indicated by a text note.

  • If the location is unclear, reach out to the design consultant for clarity.

  • Always place the accessory toward the back of the countertop/material unless otherwise specified.

  1. Measure the accessory.

  • Grommets have a flange on the top that acts as support so the grommet does not fall through the hole. It also covers the cut for a cleaner look.

  • Determine the measurement of the part that will go through the hole.

  • Determine the measurement of the flange.

    • This will tell you how much wiggle room you have during your cut.

  1. Measure the location of the accessory and cut.

  • Maintain a 1” distance from the edge of the flange to the wall/edge of the material.

    • This will allow for strength in the countertop; the closer you get to the edge, the weaker the edge becomes.

  • Measure the body of the grommet, not including the flange.

  • Measure the length and width, and add 1/16” to the total width and length dimensions.

  • Transfer these dimensions to the board using a straight edge.

  • Mark 1” from the wall to find the starting edge of the accessory.

  • Determine the center mark of your length and width measurements.

  1. Cut the hole for the accessory.

  • Round grommets/accessories:

    • Use the center mark and cut the hole with a hole saw and drill.

    • Ensure there are no obstacles or debris in the way.

  • Square grommets/accessories:

    • Use a drill and 1/2” drill bit and drill holes in all 4 corners. Do not drill outside of your measurement lines.

    • Use a jigsaw and connect the holes by cutting along the line.

    • Once the cut has gone all the way around, let the cutout fall out of the way.

    • Finish the cut by squaring up all four corners.

  1. Dry fit the accessory.

  • Make sure the grommet/accessory fits.

  • If it does not, identify the part of the hole you will need to continue to cut.

  • Repeat this until it fits.

7. Determine the path for the cord.

  1. Place the accessory and run the cord to the outlet.

  1. Complete the remainder of the installation.

Final Steps & Delivery

  1. Inspect the installation and complete any touch ups if necessary.

  2. If there are no more components to install, remove all stickers/labels.

  3. If there are no more components to install, complete the clean up process.

  4. If there are no more components to install, complete the Professional Installation Experience by walking through the space with the customer and delivering the final product.

Certification Steps:

  • The grommet/accessory is in the correct location as indicated by the elevation.

  • The grommet/accessory fits tightly in the hole.

  • The cord for the grommet/accessory travels to the nearest wall outlet in a tidy and discreet fashion.

  • The grommet/accessory provides power.
