Desks & Vanities

Desks and vanities are base cabinets without parts or bottom treatments underneath them – Essentially a completely open component. It is a spot for clients to have a stool or chair underneath in order to utilize the base cabinet in a different way.

Leave an opening between two base components with countertops when placing components. Under the Countertop heading in component properties, select Extend Left or Extend Right to stretch the countertop across an opening. This will extend the countertop until it reaches the component on the other side.

If the other component across the gap does not have a countertop, the extended countertop will continue until it hits the end of the design zone, a wall, or another component that is taller.

As an alternative, users may have an “empty” component in their corporate Office template library that they can place in the opening if it is under 36” wide. This allows the addition of parts, if desired, because it is technically a component filling the space. This method will place a fixed shelf under the countertop.

Users may choose to add parts or a modesty panel to the opening under the countertop.

If extending a countertop against a wall or taller component, users may need to add a support cleat (not shown in CAD) or a support leg. The “leg” is board material, like a partition, but it helps hold and support the weight of the countertop when there isn’t another component (due to space or design).

To add a support leg, users must first have a left/right extension on the countertop. Once Extend is enabled, check the box on the right of Leg. Select the leg material (can match components or countertop material) as well as the side and/or front offset (how far the leg sits from the wall or from the front of the countertop).

Once a leg is added, the user can change leg material, side offsets, and front offsets in the fields that appear.

If wanting to extend to a specific length, with or without a support leg, users can specify the side overhang.

If extending countertops into a corner that will be met with another countertop from the adjacent design zone, one of the countertops must go into the corner to meet the wall. Let’s call that the dominant countertop. The non-dominant countertop will only extend to meet the primary countertop and not go any further.

Users can manually set the dominant or non-dominant countertop by going into Settings [Component] and clicking the + symbol next to Countertop.

In the extended menu, click the + next to Left or Right depending on the direction of the countertop extension, and then will make a selection next to the Corner heading.

Setting the corner to Wall will designate that countertop as the dominant wall, and users should see it extend into the corner. Join does the opposite, as it will designate the counter to extend only to meet the dominant counter.

Selecting Auto will choose which countertop extends into the corner based on which component is closer to the corner (this is the default).
