Wrap Panels & Back Panels

A wrap panel is a piece of board material that flanks one or both sides of a component. Back panels are a piece of material on the back of the system (not to be confused with full system backing).

They can be added to tall or short components, to-the-floor or off-the-floor, base cabinets, and can be combined with top caps, bottom caps, and countertops to create a boxed or wrapped look on a component(s).

To apply a wrap or back panel, go into Component Properties and click the + next to the Wrap Panels heading. Turn on a panel ON, check the box to the right of the desired field.

Once turned on, more fields will appear for further editing.

WRAP PANELS

The most common uses for wrap panels are to create a change in depth and finish in the system or for creating a waterfall edge on a countertop.

A left or right wrap panel can be applied in Component Properties, as mentioned above. If placing multiple components with wrap panels together, users need only apply to one side.

Once checked, users can change the Material, as well as the extensions.

Depth Extension refers to the overhang in the front, or how far past the component’s partitions the wrap panel would extend. If combining with a countertop or top cap, users may want to change the number to match the overhang of those parts.

In the images below for examples of wrap panels combined with a countertop to create a waterfall edge.

If combined with a countertop, it will automatically change the left/right overhangs of the countertop to cover the wrap panels, so the overhangs should be set to ZERO unless wanting the countertop to overhand beyond the wrap panel.

If using wrap panels to create this type of look, make sure that the front overhang on the countertop also matches the front extensions of the wrap panels, and that the countertop and wrap panels are the same material.

Extend Down will drop the bottom of the wrap panel to whatever is below it, whether it be the floor or another component. This will NOT drop the par down with it (for info on extending a par, click here).

When this action is selected, users will see a warning for additional support, as the wrap panel on it’s own would be wobbly and suspectable to breaking without it.

To satisfy this warning and gain additional support for the wrap panel, users can add a component on one or both sides.

BACK PANELS

Back panels are used in one-sided island or peninsula designs as it will cover partition splits and create a uniform appearance. These are not usually applied to anything that is on a suspension rail.

In the same section of Component Properties, users will find the option to add a back panel.

Simply check the box on the right to turn the panel on, and select the desired Material.
