Setting up your new Mac

Welcome to your new Mac!

We’ve created this guide to help you get up and running and answer any question you may have.

And so, we ask that you please read it thoroughly.


Existing Team Members

If you are an existing team member and this is a replacement laptop, please skip to the Configure your new Mac with Setup Assistant section below.

New Hires

As part of your onboarding process, you should have received a Cal Closets email address and password.
(ex. jdoe@calclosets.com)

This account is managed by our Microsoft Office 365 suite (O365). Your login credentials were sent to your manager. If they have not yet shared your credentials with you, please contact your manager prior to setting up your new computer. 

While you can set up your Mac without this information, we recommend that you have it on hand so that you can log into all of the apps you’ll need to begin your work.

Things to know.

Your new Mac comes pre-configured to our organization. After you are done with the initial setup process, you may need to wait for some apps to finish installing in the background. The following applications will be installed in the background:

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote)

  • Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Adobe Acrobat

  • Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Vonage

  • Azure VPN


Configure your new Mac with Setup Assistant.

To set up your new computer, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Power on the computer.

  2. Select your Country/Region. Then Continue.

  3. Select your accessibility features if needed.

  4. Select a network to connect to Wi-Fi. Enter the Wi-Fi password. Then Continue.

  5. Once you see the Remote Management screen, click Enroll to begin device activation.

  6. Click Next to read our Cal Closets IT Security Policy.

  7. Accept the Cal Closets IT Security Policy if you agree to the terms of use. Click Agree.

  8. Create your computer account. Enter your name and a password. Then Continue.

  9. Enable Location Services. Then Continue.

  10. Set up Touch ID if desired. Then Continue.

  11. Choose your look, whether you want Light, Dark or Auto. Then Continue.

  12. You will be taken to your computer desktop.

  13. Some notifications will appear while applications and polices are installed onto your computer. This is normal and can take up to an hour to finish. Please keep your computer on and connected to the internet during this time to avoid interruptions.

  14. If an application called Self Service opens and asks for your Microsoft login, please log into the app. The Self Service tool is part of our management suite.


Connect to VPN (if applicable).

The Azure VPN application should automatically be installed on your computer upon initial setup.

  1. Open the Azure VPN Client from your Applications.

  2. To initiate the VPN connection, click Connect.

  3. If prompted, log in with your Cal Closets O365 account. Click Continue.

  4. Your Azure VPN should now be connected, and you can access certain company resources.
