Floating Shelves

This page has been revised following the updates to floating shelves in October 2023. A highlight video can be found at the bottom of this page.

Floating shelves are mounted to a wall versus being inside a component. Select Floating Shelf from the Shelf & Pole pull down and drag the shelf into an empty section of a design zone.

The program will not allow the user to place a floating shelf inside of a component.

Note the dimensions above and below to help position the shelf vertically. Scroll the mouse wheel to change the width in 12” intervals, if desired, before left clicking to place. The tool remains on so users can add multiple floating shelves until they right click to turn the tool off.

The labels on the top of the shelf indicate the mounting height, width, and depth.

After placement, floating shelves move and delete the same way as other parts. Double click on the dimension below the shelf to change the height.

FLOATING SHELF PROPERTIES

Adjust the shelf in Properties [Part]. This is where users can change the mounting height, width and finish.

The Top Height determines the height that the surface of the shelf will sit.

The Width is how wide the shelf is. Standard options can be selected from the drop down, or a new number can be entered. However, if entering a dimension below 18” or above 96” it will revert back to the minimum/maximum.

Floating shelves have a set height (thickness) and depth from the vendor, so these fields cannot be edited.

If a shelf is resized outside of a design zone, collides with a component, or overlaps with each other, there will be a warning.

The Finish options for a floating shelf differs from the standard board finishes. These finishes are visible in WebGL or 3D view.

Under “Misc”, the Spot Height (height of the top of the shelf) and Dim Below (space between the bottom of the shelf and whatever is below it) provide a better idea of where the shelf is vertically located on a wall.

These settings are defaulted ON but can be turned off by unchecking the box.

If wanting to apply any these setting changes to other floating shelves, use the boxes on the left of the fields (checked on or unchecked for off).
