Draw a Room Manually

A user can manually draw a room versus using the auto (or default) room from the Setup Wizard. This is useful for spaces that may not be square or rectangular, have angled walls, or anything else that is a bit out of the ordinary box.

When starting a new design, enter all information in the Setup Wizard fields as usual. Instead of selecting Start Design, select Manual.

You can select “None” in the Opening field and add them as Obstructions instead. Do not worry about adjusting wall lengths as you will be drawing our own!

This will take the user to an empty plan view. From the Action section of the Plan ribbon toolbar, select Add Wall.

All walls require a start node and an end node. Left click to add the first (starting) node. Move the curser in the direction* and the approximate length of the wall to be added (the length can be edited after left clicking to place the end node).

*Always work in a clockwise manner so that the dimension tools are showing on the outside of the walls. Typically a user would start with the wall that the entryway would be on.

The wall is complete once the second (end) node is placed. Immediately, a new wall length value can be entered if desired. Press the ENTER key on the keyboard. If users do not need to enter a new value, simply press enter or click away.

The wall tool will remain on until the end node aligns with the start, or if the user right clicks to turn the wall tool off (once set, it will default to the 0,0 coordinates on the CS Icon (Y and X axis) on the screen). Continue to work in a clockwise manner to complete the room.

After the room is finished, the walls can be edited or deleted in multiple ways. The user can add design zones where needed.

Walls can be drawn where the start node doesn’t meet up at the end node, leaving an opening – Although it is always recommended to add all entryways using the Obstruction tool if there is a door or frame. If the user prefers to leave an opening, right click to turn the wall tool off when ready.

The Add Wall tool will allow the user to pick up and draw more walls from an existing node, but also to build walls that are not attached to any of the others. For example, if there are drywalled posts or a “floating” wall in the middle of a room.

For “floating walls”, pay special attention to what side will accept the design zone (always opposite of the dimension lines) if you want to add components to them. Drawing in a clockwise manner will ensure the right side is always inside the room.
