Drawing Aids & Snap Settings

Drawing aids are found in the main menu or the ribbon toolbar of the plan and/or elevation view. They are meant to make drawing and designing easier.

Snap Settings

The Plan and Elevation views have snap space settings that can be customized depending on user preferences. The options to edit are found in the main menu under Options.

These settings are apparent when “pulling” the second node while drawing walls. The program remembers the last value entered, but can be changed depending on the needs of the current project.

Snap Settings in Plan tab.

Snap settings give more control with the way walls or components move and resize. Although it is not required to adjust the snap values from the pre-set defaults, it is helpful when designing.

SNAP SPACING

Sets the specific interval of the component’s location during placing or moving. For instance, if the snap spacing is 1”, the component will move in 1” increments.

This behaves the same way for walls in Plan view.

SNAP TOLERANCE
(ELV view only)

The maximum distance a component can be away from another component or wall without snapping, or attaching itself, to it.

SNAP CENTER
(ELV view only)

The center tolerance is the maximum distance a component can be away from the center of the design zone without snapping to it. This is apparent when centering or placing new components.

If set to 0, a center will not be recognized. Typically, the snap center is set to 1.

Grid Settings

Adjust the grids on either the Plan and Elevation views by changing the value in the Grid found in the Options section of the main menu.

They are independent of each other, so a different spacing can be chosen for each view. The spacing can be set to resemble the pads that are used during a consultation.

Turn the grid off by unchecking the Enable check box.

Drawing Aids

Drawing aids are accessible in the Plan view ribbon toolbar. They have check boxes which allow the user to turn them on/off as desired. They are helpful when drawing walls and will give the user a bit more control and flexibility.

ICON

“i” on keyboard

Turn the icon that displays the X and Y axis on or off.

ORTHO

“o” on keyboard

Walls snap into place at 45-degree intervals, used when drawing or moving walls/nodes.

ADJ NODE

“a” on keyboard

A drawing aid that keeps nodes and adjacent nodes at the same angle when moving them around or resizing. This will also come into play when moving or rotating island planes.

Measuring Tape

The Elevation view has a tool called the Measuring Tape that is incredible useful when placing upper cabinets, hutch cabinets or when stacking components. It is found in the Tools section of the ELV ribbon toolbar.

The measuring tool shows dimensions on either side or above/below the current cursor location, or it provides the overall width or height of a specific spot (for example, between a component and a wall). Users can add and edit components and parts, and perform any other task, with the tool still on.

This tool can be distracting, so many users may choose to only turn on when needed. To turn the tool off, just click the box next to Measuring Tape so there is no check in the box.

Add Dimension (Dimension Tool)

The Plan view has a tool called Add Dimension that is places measurements or dimension lines that remain as part of the plan view. They are used to show spacing or gaps between components, islands, etc.

The dimension tool has a start node and an end node. Left click to place the first one, and move the cursor to the desired direction. Left click to place the end node.

To move in 45-degree increments, click and hold the shift key.

To resize the dimension, double click on it and type in a new number. To move a dimension, hover over one of the end nodes (it will turn blue) and left click, hold, and move to a new location. Hold the shift key to move it in 45-degree angles.

To delete a dimension, right click on either node and select Delete.

Hanging & Protrusions

The Plan view has detail options called Show Hanging and Show Protrusion that help show the space that hanging clothes or pull-outs would take up.

These details can be toggled on or off in the Detail section of the Plan ribbon toolbar.

Note that these may not be completely accurate, but help provide a visual aid for yourselves or your customers.
