Suite Hardware
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Suite Hardware is a functional hardware strategy that offers solutions that are either "invisible" to the customer or have a refined design aesthetic. These options will provide the look and feel of custom-built furniture which is better aligned to the expectations beyond the closet.
While the design would look very similar to any other components that users may use, Suite Hardware has specific design parameters:
Hidden hardware for most shelving (The Leaman™ on fixed shelves)*
Defaults with Press-in Backing
System drilling holes are minimized (defaults to Custom Adjustable, can change to Custom Fixed)
Designer will have options to adjust defaults at space level or part level
*Non-visible shelving will default to standard cam, including between drawers and the bottom shelf on a floor-based system. Adjustable shelves will still use shelf pins.
For more information on Suite Hardware, see the Standard Product Guide.
Design with Suite Hardware
Designing with Suite hardware is similar to any other design with a few minor differences.
Certain spaces, when selected as the Room Type, will default to Suite Hardware. The Room Type is selected in the Setup Wizard or Space Properties. These spaces include:
Closet - Walk In - Suite
Bookcase
Media
Office
Wall Unit
Wine Bar
If selecting a space that is not Suite by default, elements of Suite hardware can still be turned on in various ways.
When adding components (new or templates) to a space, they will automatically come in with the default Press-In Backing and have the default backing selection. Users may notice the suspension rail brackets look different in the ELV view as well.
Users can manipulate components, and add parts just like they normally do.
Edit Suite Elements
While many key elements of designing Suite are turned on by default, there are ways to edit or turn these elements on/off if wanting to make change to the design. Many of these edits are done from the Materials tab ribbon toolbar.
Shelves
Fixed shelves default to a hidden hardware fitting called The Leaman™. If wanting to change the hardware fittings on individual fixed shelves between hidden (Leaman) and standard (Rafix), go to the Shelf Properties and change the option for “Fitting” under the Drilling heading.
Leaman™ shelves are designated with a triangle icon (hidden fixed shelves, like between drawers or bottom shelves, are still installed using Rafix cams and be designated with an “x”). The triangle will appear right-side or upside-down depending on the sightline.
Shelf Considerations:
Shelves with Leaman™ fittings cannot be moved - They are “forever fixed”. If using, please ensure accurate measurements of what will be stored there and make that clear to your client.
Leaman™ shelves also need a minimum of 4” to access the cam mechanism, so ensure shelves above/below are not too close.
Leaman™ shelves have a maximum depth of 26” and maximum width of 36”.
Shelf Sight Lines
The Leaman shelves have tiny holes on one side in order to access and lock the connector to the partition. The location of these holes differ based on sight lines (general eye level).
The default placement of the adjustment hole for The Leaman™ depends if the shelf is above or below the 65” sight line. If above, the cam access holes will be on the topside of the shelf. If below, they will be on the underside of the shelf.
However, this is adjustable to customer height or preference. To adjust, go into the Shelf Properties, under the Drilling heading, and change the Access Side.
Drilling
To quickly adjust drilling in the entire design, select a new option from the “Drilling” section of the Materials tab ribbon toolbar. Remember, the default drilling for Suite Hardware designs is Custom Adjustable.
For more ways to adjust drilling, see the Drilling Patterns page.
Turn “32mm Holes” ON in the Display section of the ELV ribbon toolbar to better see the holes in elevation view.
Construction Hardware Selection
Hardware Selection will determine if the design is Suite or Standard for the entire design.
If Standard is selected, the fixed shelves will revert back to have Rafix cam mechanisms instead of the Leaman™ hidden hardware. However, it WILL NOT remove backing.
Backing
To make adjustments to system backing, visit the Backing page.
