Add Empty Components

To create a system, users can either start with an empty component and add parts manually, or they can use templates. Components are added in the ELV view.

To begin, right click anywhere on the empty design zone and select Add Empty Comp.

New components will default to the depth of the design zone. In the Display section of the ELV ribbon toolbar, you can check the box next to Depths to show the depths above the component.

Before left clicking to place a component, move the curser up and down to switch between different standard partition lengths (the partition lengths depends on the defaults set within the program and may differ by location)

Typically, the selections include a short, medium, long (off-the-floor or wall mounted) or extra-long (to-the-floor or floor “mounted”) option.

Prior to placement, move the cursor left or right to position the component on the wall. Pay attention to the dimensions on either side. When the shelf stack is in the center of the design zone, it will display equal signs on the two measurements.

Left click to place the component in the desired location. Users can further specify the position by typing a number (in inches) in the boxes on the left or right immediately after it has been placed.

An empty component always has a right and left partition, bottom shelf, and top shelf. All of these can be adjusted or removed later in component properties if desired. This is commonly done if a wall-mounted component will eventually have hanging poles in it.

Remove the part by right clicking on it and selecting delete. To ensure it won’t come back, users can also click the + symbol next to Construction in component properties and navigate to the Bottom Shelf field. Uncheck the box it turn it off.

Taller, off-the-floor components may have a piece of material under the bottom shelf. This is called a support cleat (not to be confused with cleat hooks).

The support cleat is attached to wall studs and reinforced with toggle bolts, then it is attached to the system to fully secure the components. A cleat can be manually added or removed under the Construction heading in the Component Properties.

Auto means a cleat will be automatically added over a certain partition length, based on settings in your database. On will force a cleat on any component, and Off will remove it off any component.

Users can also manually add support cleats using Manual Panels (an option with the Board tool).

Check with your manager or plan reviewer before removing cleats as they may be required for support.
