CC Our Credo

California Closets defined and introduced it’s first version of Our Credo in 1999 as a tool to provide direction to our team members on what their role in delivering the California Closets Experience would be.  Our original vision and values was critical to creating a consistent language for all team members to envision their role and how they could best support the California Closets Brand.  We defined the experience as:

The never-ending pursuit of providing order, tranquility and style.  It permeates life and living.  It is useful, practical and knowledgeable.  It is simple, seamless and empowering.  The California Closets Experience is warm, friendly and attentive.  It is flexible, personal, and customized.  It has confidence and, more important, it has awareness of and respect for customer feelings and sensitivities.

For fifteen years we used the Credo as a benchmark for our values and a guiding principle in our decisions.  It influenced us in almost every area of our business.  In 2014, we felt it was time to take another look and update the Credo for the newer millennium.  We spent a year gathering input and ideas from our employees, our franchisees, our franchisees employees, our consultants and our vendors.  At the same time our president & CEO, Bill Barton, came across a TED Talk presentation by author and public speaker Simon Sinek.  Mr. Sinek’s book Start with Why elaborates on his central principle that tells us why some companies and/or individuals are more successful than others.  He summed it up in one sentence:

“People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it."

This simple concept resonated very strongly with us and factors heavily in the latest iteration of our Credo and the Credo Playbook, which was introduced at our annual convention in May 2015.

Our Credo outlines the unifying beliefs, purpose and focus of our company.  It is a set of guiding principles that connect people at all levels of the organization, and at every step of the process, so we all speak the same language and are aligned to deliver an exceptional customer experience.  The Credo is the foundational framework for how we measure, hire, train and communicate with each other.

The California Closets Credo consists of four basic tenets which are defined as follows:

  • Our Purpose

  • Our Vision

  • Our Values

  • Our Difference
