This page explains the steps to take for installing a complex setup of LOOX5 lighting. This includes multiple drivers, distribution boxes, groups, and switches. Prior to beginning the installation, ensure you have completed all steps of installing the system skeleton. All top and bottom fixed shelves should be installed. There should be no backing pieces installed in the system at this time.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must beworn at all times when handling material and operating the power tools mentioned throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.

  1. Test the light functionality.

  • Connect the driver to an outlet and plug the light into the end port of the driver.

    • This will be the port that connects to the distribution box.

    • This port receives consistent power regardless of a switch being connected.

  • If the light is not functioning according to standard quality, troubleshoot or contact the shop or warehouse to inquire about a replacement light.

    • If the driveror distribution box has a red light and the puck or ribbon light is not working, try plugging the light into one of the back ports, and attach the switch (or set up network and connect the switch) to the switch port.

    • If the light still doesn't work, replace the light or lead cable.

  1. Plan your lighting setup.

  • Determine the location of your driverand distribution boxbased on the wall outlet.

    • The leadsshould travel the shortest distance to the top of bottom fixed shelf.

    • Refer to local building codes for accessibility requirements when placing a distribution boxor driver as they should be hidden from eyesight but still accessible.

    • Depending on the length of space between the light and distribution box, extra leadsmay be required.

  • Consider the number of groups required.

    • The elevation will contain group assignments on the lighting drawing.

    • Count the number of individual lights per group and make a note on the elevation.

      • This will assist in determining ports required on the distribution box as well any necessary splitters.

      • Consider a single port as a single group. If you are using a splitter in a port, all lights connected to that splitter will be considered the same group to the switch.

  • Label your light leadsusing blue tape.

    • Wrap a strip of blue tape around the light lead to create enough surface area to make a note.

    • Label the light according to its location in the system, component, and type of light.

    • For example, a label of C2, Top SF, Ribbon, Group 3 would indicate the light is located in the 2nd component, in the top fixed shelf and is a ribbon light in Group 3.

      • This will allow for simple troubleshooting if there is a service call in the future.

  • Based on the location of your driverand distribution box, determine if any backing or fixed shelves will need to be notched for the leads to travel.

    • If you are installing 1/4” or 3/4” backing, an access hole will need to be created for the lead to travel. This will be in a later step.

    • If you are installing press-in-backing, assess if the backing is split for the fixed shelves.

      • If the backing is split, the leadswill travel freely behind the backing pieces.

      • If the backing is not split, you will need to follow the same process of creating an access hole in the backing.

    • If any of the fixed shelves are not offset, meaning there is no space between the shelf and the wall, a notch will need to be created in the back of the shelf.

  1. If Backing is not split: Create access holes for backing pieces.

  • If you are installing backing that is not split at each lit fixed shelf, access holes will be required for light leadsto travel.

  • Place the backing in the component.

  • Place the lit fixed shelf into its respective location.

  • Make a light mark on the backing to outline the top and bottom of the fixed shelf only where the light leadis located.

    • Repeat this process for each lit shelf.

  • Remove the shelves and place them outside of the component.

  • Using a 3/8” drill bit, drill the access hole through the backing where you made your mark.

  • Lean the backing along the side of the component so it is resting along the partition.

  • Begin threading the light leadthrough the access hole created.

    • Repeat this for each lit shelf.

    • Shelves should remain outside of the component during this step.

    • Leadextensions may be required to keep the shelf in its location and to reach the distribution box.

  • Pull the light leadsto the distribution box and plug them in. See Step 5 for more information.

  1. If Backing is split: Install each lit fixed shelf and allow leads to fall or pull them to their respective distribution box location.

  • Create any notches in shelves or partitions as determined in Step 2 for leadsto travel to the distribution box.

  • Depending on the length of space between the light and distribution box, leadextensions may be required.

  1. Plug the leads into the ports of the distribution box.

  • Ensure the connection is functioning by connecting the distribution box to the driver and power source.

  • Ensure you are not overloading the distribution box by connecting too many light leads. Lights will flicker if the distribution box has been overloaded.

  • Follow the wattage calculations completed by plan review.

  1. If a Connect Mesh Network is to be setup: Follow the Connect Mesh User Guide.

  2. If a wired switch is to be connected: Attach the switch lead to the distribution box and ensure the switch is functioning according to its abilities.

If one receiver is controlled by multiple switches, a multi-switch box is needed to connect the switches.

  1. Attach the switch to the system in accordance with the system’s elevation.

If the customer has opted to control the lighting by their existing wall switch, test the switch to ensure it is controlling the driver's power.

  1. Install all backing panels, and complete the remainder of the installation in accordance with the system’s elevation.
