The purpose of this page is to outline the steps required for installing 1/4” or 3/4” solid backing pieces. These steps do not apply for Press-In-Backing. Prior to beginning this process, ensure the partitions have been hung on the rail.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when handling material and operating the power tools mentioned throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.
Install and secure all bottom fixed shelves.
Spread the partitions on either side of the component 1-2” apart at the top.
Lift the backing 12-20” above the bottom fixed shelf and push it to the back of the component to fit into the dados.
Allow the backing to slide down to the bottom fixed shelf and ensure it slips into the dado on the bottom fixed shelf.
Bring the top of the partitions back together and ensure the backing slips into the dados along the partitions.
Install the top fixed shelf.
Install all remaining fixed shelves.
Level, Plumb, and Secure the system to the wall.
If the system contains lighting, refer to the basic and complex lighting pages.
The bottom fixed shelf should be the full depth of the component, and the middle and top fixed shelves should be 3/4” smaller in depth to hold the backing in place.
Place the top fixed shelf in position. Do not lock the shelf in.
Place the bottom fixed shelf in position and secure the shelf.
Level, and plumb the system.
Place the backing into the component and press it into the wall.
Secure the top fixed shelf.
Secure the system to the wall.
Install all middle fixed shelves.

Inspect the installation and complete any touch ups if necessary.
If there are no more components to install, remove all stickers/labels.
If there are no more components to install, complete the clean up process.
If there are no more components to install, complete the Professional Installation Experience by walking through the space with the customer and delivering the final product.
