This page explains the steps to take for installing a standard hanging pole. Prior to beginning the installation, ensure you completed all steps of installing the system skeleton.

Installation Steps

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when handling material and operating the power tools mentioned throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.

  1. Take inventory of the poles you have for the installation.  Place each pole in front of the corresponding component.

  2. Open and prepare each pole.

  • Remove the poles from the plastic.  Do this over a blanket to catch any shavings of metal leftover from the cutting of the pole.

  • Check for metal shavings underneath the plastic strip at the top of the pole.

  • All pole packages contain 1 pole and 2 sets of pole brackets.  Each set contains 1 bracket for the partitions, and 1 bracket for the pole.

  1. Place brackets on the pole.

  • Place one bracket on each end of the pole. Ensure the triangular opening on the back side of the cup is sitting wider side down, and narrow side up. The pole should have the plastic edge facing up.

  1. Attach brackets to the partitions.

  • Install the smaller bracket with the nubs on the back into the holes on the partition.

  • Unless otherwise indicated in the elevation, the bracket will be placed in the 2nd and 3rd System 32 holes down from the fixed shelf above.

  1. Install the pole.

  • Set the pole with brackets from Step 3 above the brackets on the partition.

  • Slide the pole and brackets down onto the partition brackets.

  • If Applicable: Apply pressure downward to ensure the pole brackets are inserted flush with the partition brackets.

  • Ensure the brackets are engaged and secure.

 

If installing a round pole, place the pole in the full coverage cup, and slide opposite end down on the half-coverage cup.


Troubleshooting Fit

If the brackets did not align, separate the brackets and make sure the bracket on the partition is tight to the partition.  Retry the pole attachment.

If the pole is loose (Option 1):

  1. Remove the pole and measure it.  It should be ¼” shorter than the width itself.

  2. If it is too big, cut it down.  If it is too small, check the remaining poles on the job and ensure you are installing the correct pole.

  3. If this pole is the correct pole for the space, retrieve extra pole from the van/truck and cut it down to size using a miter saw.

If the pole is loose (Option 2):

  1. Remove the pole and place a screw in the bracket against the partition, and slide the pole back into the bracket.

  2. This will ensure the bracket is tight-fitting to the partition.

If the pole is loose (Option 3):

  1. Check to ensure the fixed shelve above the pole is locked in securely.

Final Steps & Delivery

  1. Inspect the installation and complete any touch ups if necessary.

  2. If there are no more components to install, remove all stickers/labels.

  3. If there are no more components to install, complete the clean up process.

  4. If there are no more components to install, complete the Professional Installation Experience by walking through the space with the customer and delivering the final product.


Certification Steps:

  1. Pole brackets have been placed in System 32 holes, in the second and third holes down from the fixed shelf above.

  2. Poles have been properly installed, with the plastic edge facing up.

Terms & Definitions

Elevation

The CAD Design Plan created by the Design Consultant with the client.

System 32

The lines on the edge of each par show where the System 32 bore holes are.
System 32 is a drilling pattern for cabinet sides and pars consisting of 5mm diameter holes drilled on 32mm centers. On each par, there are 2 lines of holes and can be drilled as half-bore (not all the way through the par) and through-bore (all the way through the par). The horizontal lines on each par show the exact location of the System 32 holes. The diameter of the line indicates if the hole is half-bore or through-bore.
