Shelf Valances

Kickplates are automatically added at the bottom of to-the-floor components, but they can also be added to create a valance on upper (or any off-the-floor) components. They can be purely decorative, or can help hide mounting hardware or lighting. In this application, they are often called a valance.

Add and edit the height of the kickplate valance in the Properties [Component]. Select Kickplate as the Treatment Type under the Bottom Treatment heading. The Bottom Offset will need to be set for the kickplate to appear - 2 spaces is pretty common, but can be customized.

This can be done regardless if the component is empty or has existing parts, although adding a kickplate can shift parts. This may require the user to adjust as necessary; For example, doors will push upward. To fit back into the component, use the - button when hovering over the front to make the door smaller.

The Type (continuous or standard) and Front Offset can be changed, depending on how much of a recess is preferred. This is also where a specific Finish can be selected if preferring something different than the main finish.

Use Apply properties to.. Select to add the valance to the rest of the upper component. Avoid applying to the wall or room as it will affect all components.

If viewed from the bottom, the partitions extend past the bottom shelf. A Bottom Offset above zero means the bottom shelf is now raised, but the partition still extends to the bottom of the original component.

This does not present a very clean appearance and many designers will choose to raise the interior partitions when adding a valance. This will require the user to change the partition height extensions.

If turning valances/kickplates off, it will only remove the piece of material. The bottom shelf offset needs to be set back to 0 (zero) under the Construction heading in component properties.
