Service Tool

The CAD Service Tool allows users to view and select certain parts within an existing design that may need service. Selecting a part in Service Mode indicates that it needs to be produced. This could be because:

  • The part was delivered wrong/damaged and need to be reproduced.

  • The part is new (being added to an existing design) – Service mode automatically selects/includes parts that you add new while in service mode.

  • Sometimes adding new parts or editing a design will require a part to be re-manufactured, e.g. users might add another component to the end of a system on an open wall. The outside partition would not have had any holes drilled on the outside and now a new partition will need to be drilled on both sides to replace it.

One example of when to use Service Mode.

Users may also use Service Mode to view pricing for specific parts versus having to navigate to the Parts List when in front of a client.

If servicing an existing CAD project, open the most relevant/recent project file. If making changes to the original design, make those changes in the normal (standard) design mode before servicing.

If preferred, have labels turned on. This may help identify certain parts that may not be obvious or visible. Labels can be turned on from the Display section of the ELV ribbon toolbar.

Users don't have to make a copy of the space before making service edits. If not, it will preserve the matching Space SKU to align with what is uploaded to the Dashboard Invoice. They can make a copy if they need to preserve the original design for any reason, in which case they would need to label the Copy as “Original” but make the changes in the original version.

SERVICE THROUGH JOB MANAGER

After making any changes to the design, open the Job Manager and click Service to turn Service Mode on.

The word “service” will appear next to the name in the Job Manager, a blue Service Mode text will appear in the upper left, and all components/parts will go grey.

Select the desired part(s) by left clicking on them. When a part is selected, it will appear with a black outline and a label will appear that is specific to the part.

Clicking on an assembly part (any part made up of smaller parts such as drawers, wall beds, etc) will generally include all the parts (e.g. clicking on a drawer will include the face, box, drawer insert, slides, and hardware).

Use the Service/Deservice all tool to quickly select or deselect all parts in a design.

If adding new parts while Service is turned on, those parts will automatically come in as a serviced part.

Selected or new parts appear in the Parts List. Any unselected parts will be ignored.

Once all part(s) needing service are selected, use the Finalize button in the Job Manager to create a finished service CAD file and upload using the same local protocol as other finalized CAD plans.

Click the Service button to turn Service Mode off. Service Mode will remain on until turned off, even if closing the project.

SERVICE THROUGH PROPERTIES MENU

Certain parts, such as backing and drawer boxes, are not able to be selected in the Elevation view. Instead, they are selected in their property menus when Service Mode is turned on. Users can do this without selecting the part to turn it “on” in elevation view.

Here are some common examples:

BACKING

If the backing if behind doors, switch to Component View Mode to select, or select in Component Properties.

DRAWER & DOOR FACES, BOXES & INSERTS

Select in elevation view or through drawer/door properties if needing to be specific (for example, only the face needs service). If already clicked on a part, users may have to uncheck unnecessary fields if not needed. Some service options are found under the Misc heading.

DECORATIVE HARDWARE & HINGES

Only selected in drawer/door properties. There is a service hinge box found in door properties.

If the part is already selected and only the handle is being replaced, remember to uncheck the other service boxes as needed.

PULL OUTS & OFFSET CLEATS

Selected in part properties. Cleats may be selected for service if ordering as a replacement.

If cleats are already existing on a pull-out, they will automatically be included with the pull-out if pull-out is selected for service.

COUNTERTOPS

Can be clicked on in elevation view or edited in component properties.

SERVICE LIGHTING

When servicing lighting, users must be in the Lighting view mode in order to select lighting parts.

 If replacing an ORIGINAL part:

  1. In Service Mode, switch to Lighting View Mode and select lighting parts.

  2. A new shelf or partition may be required in addition to the lighting part.*

If ADDING lighting to an EXISTING design:

  1. A new shelf or partition will be required in addition to the lighting part, as the original part will not have proper machining.

  2. Additional lighting parts may need to be added – use Text Note or Lighting parts to add what is needed.

Both situations may require a conversation with the local Plan Reviewer
