Installation Steps

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when handling material and operating the power tools mentioned throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.

Round Grommets

  1. Determine the location of the grommet as indicated by the elevation.

  • This will be indicated by a text note.

  • The default location unless otherwise noted: Maintain a minimum 1” distance from the edge of the hole to the back/side of the material.

    • Dual Grommets: Must be placed a minimum 1” distance from the edge of the hole to any adjacent parts. Ensure they do not conflict with any partition hardware.

    • This will allow for strength in the countertop; the closer you get to the edge, the weaker the edge becomes.

  • If the location is unclear, reach out to the design consultant for clarity.

  1. Confirm measurement of grommet.

  • Use the table below to determine the measurements for the grommet you are installing.

  1. Measure the location of the grommet.

  • Measure 1” (unless otherwise indicated from DC) + grommet center point from the back of the material. Make a mark.

    • For example, if installing a square grommet, measure 1” + 7/8” from the back.

  • Measure 1” (unless otherwise indicated from DC) + grommet center point from the side of the material Make a mark.

    • For example, if installing a square grommet, measure 1” + 7/8” from the side.

  • Extend markings to intersect

  • Double check measurements (measure twice, drill once) and confirm there are no obstructions (modesty panels, hardware, wrap panels, etc.) below the cut.

  1. Cut the hole for the accessory.

  • Place the center of the hole saw against the intersection of marks.

  • Complete the cut.

    • Use both hands to stead the tool.

    • Do not apply too much pressure as the tool builds speed; allow the saw to cut through the material naturally.

    • If both sides of the material will be visible, begin the cut from one side, and complete the cut from the other side using the drilled hole as a position guide. This will ensure a cleaner cut on both sides.

    • If only one side of the cut is visible, cut from one side.

For situations with a shelf immediately below the countertop: Cut back the shelf below by 4” if not already done so. Re-cam the shelf if applicable.

  1. Dual Grommet Only: Cut the grommet to size according to the material thickness

  • Insert the male side of the grommet through the cut hole.

  • Make a mark on the grommet from the other side of the partition (to mark the depth required for the grommet).

  • Cut the male side of the grommet 1/8” short of the mark.

  1. Dry fit the grommet.

  2. Vacuum all shavings on the material, under the material, and around the system.

  3. Install the grommet.

  1. Remove cut material from the hole saw.

  1. Demonstrate to the customer how to snap out the center cap.

Rectangular Grommets
Single Wall Outlet Grommet, Double Wall Outlet Grommet, 1/4” Grommet

  1. Determine the location of the grommet based on outlet location

  1. Transfer measurements to the material being cut. Extend the marks to create a large intersection

  2. Place the grommet at the intersection to confirm cut placement. Trace the bottom edge of the grommet.

  3. Confirm centerpoint measurements to outlet and grommet placement (measure twice, cut once)

  4. Cut the hole for the grommet.

For situations with a shelf immediately below the countertop: Cut back the shelf below by 4” if not already done so. Re-cam the shelf if applicable.

  1. Dry fit the grommet.

  2. Install the grommet by placing it firmly into the hole.

  3. Vacuum all shavings on the material, under the material, and around the system.

Final Steps & Delivery

  1. Inspect the installation and complete any touch ups if necessary.

  2. If there are no more components to install, remove all stickers/labels.

  3. If there are no more components to install, complete the clean up process.

  4. If there are no more components to install, complete the Professional Installation Experience by walking through the space with the customer and delivering the final product.
