Drawer Depth Warnings

When designing with drawers, users may experience specific warnings. They often relate to the depth of the drawer, and commonly appear when designing around floor molding or adding certain inserts.

RAIL INTERFERING WITH BOX

When creating a shallower component with a lowered top shelf, users may receive a “Rail interfering with box” warning on the top drawers.

To satisfy the warning, users can change the drawer box size in Properties [Part] to a smaller size than the assembly (for example, a M box for a L size assembly).

DRAWER HITS MOLDING

Adding certain parts will prompt a “Drawer hits Mldng” warning. This is most common when the floor molding is too tall/thick and may be in the way of the bottom drawer. These warnings are triggered at certain depths, and will only appear on the parts directly interfering.

The warning will be very specific when indicating the required depth (changes based on glide requirements or parts). To satisfy the warning, simply change the depth of the drawer in Properties [Part] to a shallower depth. This is located under the Box heading > Dimensions subheading. Change the Depth field to a shallower depth - In this example, 11.5”.

There will be a depth label on the front of the drawer, and the warning will disappear.

If viewing behind the component, you can see the change in depth to the bottom drawer versus the ones above.

Alternatively, users can add the number in the warning to the component depth in Properties [Comp] to satisfy. The number in the warning is just a minimum, the user can round up to a whole number (or go even deeper) if preferred.

Note that this may add double pars due to parts with runners or hinges, but you can turn Auto Partition off prior to the change to avoid this. This method is not as common a solution as just changing the individual drawer depth!

Similar warnings will also appear with certain inserts (such as power inserts) which has nothing to do with molding.

Users would take the same steps in changing the drawer depth in order to satisfy the warning.
