Process Steps

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times when handling material and operating the power tools mentioned throughout this process. Review the PPE Matrix for further guidance.

  1. Lay out ladder base pieces.

  • The front plate should be as wide as the system or component(s) being placed above it.

  • The two outside pieces/end toes should span to the wall.

  • The back piece/rear plate should fit between the two sides.

  • The middle pieces/sleepers should fit between the front and back, and spaced out evenly.

  1. Attach the front plate to the side and middle pieces using an 18-gauge nailer and 2” nails.

  2. Line up the rear plate with the side and middle pieces and attach using an 18-gauge nailer and 2” nails.

The middle pieces are typically shorter than the side pieces. This will create a slight gap between the rear of the ladder base and the wall.

  1. Secure the ladder base form using an 18-gauge nailer and 2” nails. There must be 2 nails at each connection point.

  2. Set the base in place and level using shims or par feet.

  3. Complete the system build above the ladder base.

  4. Touch up nail holes with wax crayon.
