Doors can be added to a component using the Doors drop-down menu in the Elevation view toolbar.

There are two options – Exterior and Interior. They have the same properties, are constructed the same, and work the same way in CAD. The difference is how they are interact with other parts in a component, and users will select one depending on what best suits the application or design.

Ext. Door refers to a door that spans over all shelves or poles, but is bound by external faces, such as drawers or hampers.

Int. Doorrefers to doors that can be placed between fixed shelves and/or upright shelves. They can be used to cover half or parts of a component. They will automatically fill the boundary they are placed in.

The following methods work the same for either door option.

Select the desired door type from the ribbon toolbar. Before left clicking to place the door, move the cursor left and right horizontally across the component to see different door hinge options.

The pointed end of the dashed lines dictate the side(s) with the hinge(s). The options are left hinged, double doors or right hinged.

Users can select additional hinge options, such as top hinge or bottom hinge, in the door part properties.

Certain hinge (or style) options have size restrictions. This may be for height or widths that need adjusting. Despite there being some warning built into CAD, see the Standard Product Guide for full information.

Before placing, scroll the mouse wheel (or use up/down keyboard keys) to change the height of the door and move the mouse up and down to change the door location. Left click to place.

Users can stack multiple doors on top of each other depending on the height both the system and the doors. For Ext Doors, scroll to change the size before stacking. For Int Doors, scroll or place a fixed shelf in first to divide the space.

Notice in the GIFS below how Ext doors and Int doors behave differently when adding around specific parts. If a component is empty or the door is going over a shelf group, it behaves the same way as an Ext door.

Users can also use the - and + to change the size after it has been placed. Once placed, a door can be moved and deleted the same was as other parts.

Note

When resizing a door, a fixed shelf will be added at the top and/or bottom side of the door. This is needed for stability and structure.

Shelving can be added behind doors by using the shelf part tool, either before or after. They cannot be used to split helves.


It is easier to add individual shelves, or explode a shelf group, as they can get in the way of resizing a door after it’s been added.



Doors have an Auto Height feature. There can only be one door per component that has this feature, and it is automatically added to the first door added. This dictates which door will resize if the height of the component is changed. This may only affect the user if they have multiple doors in the same component.

Auto Height can be turned off, or turned on for another door, in door Properties [Part] under the Misc heading. Uncheck the box next to Auto Height.

If the component doesn’t have any door with Auto Height enabled, the height won’t be changed as it is locked.

Turning Display Hinges on from the Display section of the Elevation ribbon toolbar will also show specifically where door hinges are located along the pars.

Hinge location should be edited by plan reviewers. If a specific location is requested, a text notecan be provided with specific information from the design consultant.







Door Properties

Use Part Properties to adjust the doors. The options look familiar to drawer properties. The drop-down menus may vary slightly depending on what type of door is being edited.

Use the global Materials tab to quickly change all the doors or drawers simultaneously.

At the top of the menu, users can edit the Hinge Side, Type, Style and Finish using the drop-down menus.

If the front can support a door insert, the Insert option becomes available. A preview will be shown in the elevation view. It is only temporary, but users can see the full preview using the 3D view.

If the front is patterned (for example, TLF or deep-textured), users can check the box for Rotate Grain to have the grain run vertically, versus the traditional horizontal orientation.
  
Users can select the Front Overlay, Hinge Type and Style, Hardware, Locks, and dimensions.

Misc is where users can find the Auto Height feature and the ability to manually control fixed support shelves above and below that door.

Many fields are filtered, so if selecting a type, for instance, all styles or colors will populate based on what is available.

Remember that you can apply any of these finishes to other components or to your entire room using the Apply Properties To.. options.

 

Selecting Front Hardware

Unlike drawers, doors do not always require hardware to open them, therefore there won’t be a missing hardware warning if none is selected. Hardware can be added and edited in door properties or in the Materialstab.

If using the door properties menu, selections are made under the Hardware heading. Users must first select the Type of hardware and additional fields will appear.

Depending what Type is selected, the Style and Finish options will vary. These handles automatically have part numbers, pricing and lead times associated with them and will appear in the Parts List with this information. Users can also select the hardware Location, which dictates if the hardware sits towards the top, center, or bottom of the face(this may be edited based on the front style or if it is an upper cabinet, base cabinet, etc.).

Rotate will turn the handle 90 degrees for a different aesthetic.

Users may also opt to select Custom hardware and input the part number and pricing manually for it to show on the Parts List. For more information on inputting custom hardware, click HERE (note that a CC360 login is required to access).
