Shelf Groups

A Shelf Group (or multi-shelf group) is a group of more than one shelf added at one time, instead of adding the shelves individually. The term “shelf group” refers to the action or result of the action, not a particular type of shelf. They behave differently than individually added shelves.

They can be created using adjustable, fixed, glass, pull-out (located in the Pull-Out drop down), or slanted shoe shelving (located in the Shoe Storage drop down) – However, it will only add the same type of shelf.

The Auto Shelf feature is used to create a combination of fixed and adjustable shelves, spaced evenly within the component.

The program will automatically place a fixed shelf where required, typically in the middle of the component.

When the shelf function is engaged, scroll the mouse wheel (or up/down keyboard keys) up, and then up or down, to increase or decrease the number of shelves. Left click to place in the component. The function will remain on until the user right clicks to turn it off.

A shelf group will always fill the available space within a component, however, a multi-shelf group can be confined by an existing fixed shelf (such as a top shelf, above a pole, or above a bank of drawers). Therefore, fixed shelves can be added first to help control the space that a shelf group fills by adding them (individually) to the component before adding a group.

A shelf group equally divides the spacing between shelves (or close to it, it will vary slightly because of the 32mm system holes).

The exact distance between shelves will vary due to shelf type (fixed versus adjustable, for example) and the space available. They are rounded to the 32mm system holes.

The quantity of the shelves or shelf spacing can be modified afterwards by clicking on the + and buttons towards the middle of the grouping.

The blue “Auto” in the upper corner is referring to an auto-height feature - It does not refer to the type of shelf group.

The height of a shelf group can be adjusted by using the + and buttons at the bottom of the grouping . If the height is already maxed out in the available space, there will not be a + symbol. Users can also move the shelf group (by right click>move or double left click) and scroll the mouse wheel to change the size.

A shelf group is considered a whole part, and they behave differently than individually added shelves.

This is most noticeable when hovering over or selecting the parts - The entire part and the shelves that make it up turn blue with a shelf group, whereas with individual shelves the space between them turns green and the shelf independently turns blue.

Selecting Delete will delete the entire shelf group. Double clicking on the group, or right click > move, will move all shelves together.

As a shelf is a large part, it may require the user to go through the component submenu when right clicking because CAD recognizes parts first.

Exploding a Shelf Group

The user is not able to move, delete or edit the individual shelves within a shelf group unless the grouping is removed.

To remove, right click on the group (not the shelves themselves) and select Explode. After using the Explode feature, the shelves can be edited or moved individually by pressing the individual + and - shelf buttons.

Once a shelf group is exploded, there is no way to “re-group” and they will only remain as individual shelves unless the user hits Undo.

Shelf Group Properties

The Part Properties of a multi-shelf group looks differently than that of a single shelf. Properties can be accessed by simply left clicking on the part or from the right click menu.

Adjust the number of shelves by changing the Divide field. This refers to the physical spaces between the shelves, versus the number of shelves. This is an alternative to using the + and on the multi-shelf group.

The Shelf Type field allows the user to change the type of shelving. For example, if accidently adding all adjustable shelves, users can change it to Auto without deleting it and adding a new group.

Users can set shelves back by changing the Depth. This will not change the fixed shelf above or below a group.

The Finish can also be adjusted here.
