Component Templates

A template is a pre-designed component, often with parts, that can be added to a design zone from the Components section of the ELV ribbon toolbar. This is useful as there are specific components used often, such as hanging sections and drawer layouts. The benefit is that the user won’t have to create certain components from scratch every time.

There are 3 types of defined templates: User, Franchise/Dealer and Corporate. The difference is who created them and who can view/use the templates.

Add a Template

To browse templates in different sub-folders, left click the drop-down in the Components section of the ELV ribbon toolbar.

Left click to select a template and left click to place the template in the design zone.

The user can also scroll the mouse wheel (or use the up/down arrow keys on the keyboard) to view and select different templates from the same subfolder without going back to the ribbon toolbar. Users can add as many templates as they’d like, right clicking to turn the function off.

Component templates move, delete, center and are edited the same way as other components, but they come in at a set height, width and sometimes depth. The user can make changes to a template or its parts once it is placed and it won’t affect the original, saved template. This means that templates can be used “as is” or as a starting point for the design.

Any wall-mounted template can be changed to a floor-mounted component if the cursor is towards the bottom of the design zone when placing.

To quickly match the template height to the design zone height, right click and select AutoFit Height.

Despite templates saving at specific heights and widths, they do not save any finish information. This means that the overall material and part finishes can be selected.

Create A Template

Users can create their own templates (known as “user defined” templates) by adding desired parts to an empty component or by making changes to an existing template. If needed, work with your manager to build your own template library.

All templates and sub-folders can be organized or deleted from a computer in the “templates” folder. The location of this folder may vary slightly depending on the user’s operating system, but the path should look something like this:

Make sure you are in the regular “templates folder, not “templates corporate” or “templates dealer”.

Here, users can create template sub-folders (right click > new > folder OR find in window toolbar) that will show as a new template library in CAD. A sub-folder won’t show up in the template library unless it has a template saved inside. The user sub-folders can be deleted (right click > delete) but if there are templates inside they will be deleted also.

Each template is made up of two files: a .cct (template file) and a .pgn (thumbnail file). If wanting to delete or move them into different subfolders, the user must move/delete both files.

Template folders are Admin folders, so you may get a warning when trying to move, delete or create files. Just click Continue to move forward.

To create a template, either add desired parts to an empty component or manipulate an existing template. Right click on the finished component save and select Save As Template.

Double click to select a suitable subfolder (the user should be inside the folder), and type a name for the template. Click Save.

Templates should show up in the program immediately. Navigate to the folder where the templates was saved to locate or use.

Templates typically auto-adjust to the depth of the design zone, although users can “lock” the depth of a template so that it doesn’t change. This is common for base cabinet templates, for example.

First, create the component as desired and then change the depth. In the Component Properties dialogue, go to the Template heading and check the box next to Fixed Depth before saving the template.

A template with a locked depth will appear with a red number in the right corner. To-the-Floor components will have a red underline.
